TSA 160 UFO in Arsenal Emirates Stadium, London

GEZE UK on the ball at Emirates Stadium

The landmark Emirates Stadium has opened its doors to supporters, thanks to the UK’s leading supplier of door and window control systems, GEZE UK, whose team of experts specified and installed several impressive entrances at the new home to Arsenal Football Club.

The club’s famous megastore, The Armoury, is one of the first sites in the UK to benefit from GEZE’s new TSA 160 UFO - a state-of-the-art automatic underfloor operator.

At the request of the architect, HOK Sport, GEZE UK worked with Reglit Glass to create a striking glass façade, featuring unique red glass panels bearing the Arsenal colours and emblem, with extra wide manual and automatic doors.

The need for an unbroken glass effect and extra wide doors was a key challenge, which was met by experts from GEZE UK, who specified and installed the TSA 160 UFO drive units in the floor so they couldn’t be seen. This overcame the problems of limited area at the top of the doorframe and maintains the clean transparent design as well as supporting the doors that were 1200mm wide.

At Arsenal’s headquarters, GEZE UK installed three pairs of manual glass doors with TSA 160 transom mounts, ideal for busy sites requiring access for all. It also helps to save energy by ensuring that doors are shut efficiently, safely and securely, in line with the eco-friendly approach to the overall stadium design.

GEZE UK also installed doors within the Emirates stadium, selecting several sets of Slimdrive SD Autos and TSA 160s on circulation routes, bringing design and practicality together, ensuring all access points complied with DDA regulations and maintained a sleek, aesthetic appearance.

Arsenal moved into its new 60,000 capacity stadium in time for the start of the 2006/07 season.

Commercial Manager for Reglit Glass, Paul Saxton, said: “This was a very successful project and the finished result is popular with fans and staff at Arsenal. The installation of the unique 160 TSA UFO was effectively completed and the responses we received from GEZE UK were very good. I am also pleased with the ongoing support we received.”

GEZE’s UK specification manager, Paul Wyatt added: “This was a challenging brief for a prestigious London landmark. The love and passion shown by the Arsenal supporters is legendary and we wanted to deliver the most stylish and impressive entrances we could for such an historic club. Our new UFO was the perfect choice at the Armoury and enabled the architects to achieve the look they really wanted.”
