GEZE proves versatile for office project

GEZE has always gone that extra mile to supply bespoke products wherever necessary and so were the obvious choice to help create a spacious and attractive lobby in a renovated office building in Hanover Square, London.

The building, situated in the exclusive Mayfair area of London, combines office and retail space therefore needed an attractive yet functional entrance portal which also maximised the space within the internal reception area.

That led architects Osel to design a shallow curved lobby to reduce the impact on the reception area, with the emphasis of the curved doors providing a welcoming entrance, creating a feeling of light and space.

Director of the Hanover project Tony Lynch, from Osel Architects, commented: “For the entrance to the building we wanted something of a ‘feature door’, and curved entrances are a lot more attractive than straight ones. The unusual elongated semi-circular doors needed a door drive which could fit inconspicuously into the door. The GEZE SC curved slider was ideal as it has very smooth operation, is automatic and represented good quality and value for money.”

Sales and marketing director at GEZE Paul Gerrard, added: “We’re delighted to be able to supply a bespoke product for such an installation. GEZE are always willing to be flexible and create products to match our clients’ requirements wherever possible.”

GEZE was chosen for the project because the specially-made design allowed the unit to be concealed into the ceiling to improve the overall aesthetics of the curved doors. With a height of just 7cm, the Slimdrive SC was the ideal product to be fitted as inconspicuously as possible.

The SC also needed to be longer and shallower to fit with the shape of the door, so GEZE was able to provide a model which was made exactly to client specifications.

The entrance is fitted with standard operation motion detectors which operate automatically when people enter or leave the building and are concealed within the ceiling canopy to ensure the lobby has clean lines.

In addition to the sensors, a unique GEZE programme switch with soft touch keys was installed to allow complete control of door functions, while meeting current safety and DDA requirements.

Other standard functions of the SC include an advanced self monitoring processor which automatically adjusts door operation to suit busier times of day, exit only, monitored battery back up, hold open on fire alarm for emergency egress and electric locking built into the drive.
