The extension of Spain’s biggest and most important airport „Madrid-Barajas“ has been completed. The opening of a new terminal now means that the conditions for the capacity of up to 70 million passengers a year have been established. The ultramodern, 120 square metre building was designed by the Spanish architect Lamela with his British colleague Richard Rogers and is one of the most spectacular airport buildings in existence. This masterpiece of architectural work has now been awarded the „Architecture Oscar“, the Stirling Prize 2006.

The main terminal is divided into three levels; a huge roof, whose design looks like wings which stretch over the terminal is supported by steel “trees”. The simple range of materials, allowing for a great deal of daylight and clarity of space gives the architecture a direct character - it is impressive by its size and functionality. The technical equipment from check in  via the information system up to passenger and baggage transport is also in accordance with the most up to date systems available worldwide.

The integrated GEZE products catch the eye due to the interaction of functionality and discreet integration in the architecture. They comply with the high safety standards of an airport and at the same time emphasise the futuristic design and modernity of the building. The entrance, equipped with the GEZE Econodrive EL-FR automatic sliding door drives, blends with the colour scheme and general impression of the departure concourse, offers the greatest degree of security and furthermore act as wind protection.
